Pornography Via Satellite

Can you imagine 17 million people living in close proximity with entire families living in the same household? There are satellite TV dishes on every roof top pulling in 60 free channels of pornography 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The man of the house is being taught that pornography will make him more of a man.  Pornography will strengthen his marriage if he makes his wife watch with him. Imagine the shame and abuse that occurs every day under the influence of this evil attack on the population of Cairo, Egypt.  There are no therapists or counselors trained in helping those caught in the bondage of pornography via the Internet and satellite TV. Finally, one more thing, the culture suppresses any attempt by anyone to break free from the grip of pornography or sex addiction.

THE SILENT ADDICTION

This is not a topic that is talked about publicly or in the churches. Confessions of this type sin in any group setting are discouraged. By bringing this addiction out into the open thru recovery groups utilizing Celebrate Recovery materials, God's word, and prayer, people are beginning a healing process that is so desperately needed all around the world. ICM has once again taken the lead in providing quality, practical training to church leaders....even on this difficult topic.

ICM country directors, Laila and Wahid Wahba of Egypt, invited Dennis & Georgia Miller, ICM Northwest Representatives, to travel to Cairo. The team presented four days of training to 60 health care professionals including medical doctors, therapists and counselors. The Millers have experienced their own recovery from addiction and associated emotional and spiritual issues. They have spent years helping others and were able to share their experience to help launch a sexual addiction recovery process in Cairo and Alexandria, Egypt.

GOD PREPARED THE WAY

Georgia authored a book “Making a Quilt Out of Cobwebs.” This is the story of how Georgia survived being married to a sex addict. In Egypt, she was able to spend a lot of time counseling women individually and in group settings.

Dennis, who has been in recovery successfully for several years, had many opportunities to counsel and pray with men individually. He helped lead a young business man to the saving knowledge of Jesus during one of  the first days after arriving in Egypt. Dennis says “God made divine appointments for us before we ever arrived. We know that He prepared the hearts and minds of these people to be open to our message and teaching."

EXPONENTIAL MINISTRY

The Wahbas head up the Middle East Leadership Training Institute or MELTI. They host a web page dedicated to young people’s issues and produce a television show geared for a younger audience. The Wahbas are producing videos of this training to be broadcast via the local TBN network and the seminars will also be available on many Arabic language websites.

The Millers’ training seminar will have a potential viewership of over 70 million Arabic speaking peoples in North Africa and the Middle East. Dennis & Georgia met with Campus Crusade staff members in Alexandria and they have agreed to begin mentoring and counseling by email, some of their staff and people who are trying to break free from the bondage of pornography. Several of the seminar attendees stated that they were going to begin some small groups amongst themselves and go through the 12-step recovery process. They want to become more familiar with the process and to be able to start recovery groups for others needing help with this addiction. The Millers are considering small group leadership training and other materials to be delivered at a later date.
