Good News from a Distant Land

Scott Barcus has been involved with ICM as a teacher and currently serves on the ICM board. He was also involved in ICM Kenya’s bid for accreditation. Scott lives in Auberry, California.

Scott recently returned from Ghana and had this to say:
"Phil.... Words do not adequately communicate the personal enrichment and blessing I receive from these opportunities to serve Jesus. I continue to be totally amazed at the ways my partnership with ICM has changed my life. Thanks so much for allowing me to play a part in all the work that is being done."

"Like cold water to a weary soul is good news from a distant land."
This verse of scripture provides a very appropriate summary for our                                     Ghana Beach
recent trip to Ghana.Working with Myron Goodwin and Philip Tutu, we taught five seminars at two locations. One location was at the Assemblies of God Church in Anloga, which is about a two to three hour drive from Accra.During our first week of instruction in Anloga, we taught the following seminars: "Purpose Driven Life"; "Preaching for Life Change"; "Seven Laws of the Learner"; and "Effective Parenting in a Defective World". This was a tremendous blessing for me. I was able to observe Myron and Philip as they taught. I learned from their different, but very effective styles of teaching. I discovered very quickly that when the temperature is in the mid-eighties to low nineties with high humidity and no air conditioning, it takes a tremendous amount of energy to adequately teach and motivate effectively.

Since much or most of the material was new for me, it was a perfect example of God taking an individuals weakest attributes and using them for His purposes and glory. In addition, we would finish each day fully spent, but totally energized to repeat the process the next day.

The students were equally challenged with the circumstances and it was an overwhelming experience to observe them absorb so much information and return for the challenges of a new day and a new seminar.  For each and all involved in our Anloga seminars it became abundantly clear that "God is not unjust, and He will not forget the work and the love you have shown His people and continue to help them."

Teaching Walk Thru the Old Testament in Ghana

Our seminar in Accra was at the Madina Assemblies of God Church where Myron taught "Walk Thru the Old Testament".  I was a student for this seminar and helped with some group instruction as I learned the information.  I really enjoyed this experience.  Thanks Myron...you are a great teacher and you made the entire experience so memorable and fun.  Thanks Philip for demonstrating your ability to captivate an audience with your zeal and captivating techniques when teaching and preaching.

Each trip to Africa enriches, transforms and provides a renewed energy to see what God has planned for future opportunities to do His work.

Facts about Ghana

Flag of Ghana

The Meaning of the Flag

I decided on the three colors of red, gold & green because of the geography of Ghana. Ghana lies in the tropics and is blessed with rich vegetation. The color Gold was influenced by the mineral rich nature of our lands and Red commemorates those who died or worked for the country's independence. The five pointed lone star which is the symbol of African emancipation and unity in the struggle against colonialism.
