"Good Coffee Makes the Goats Dance"

Rev. Skip Taylor is a pastor and Bible teacher.
After serving for 12 years in the military Rev. Taylor
became a pastor/teacher.  Currently Rev. Taylor
works with ICM as a teacher in both the seminary
and conference programs.  His work throughout the
Middle East and Africa has earned him a reputation
as not only a great teacher but an even
greater encourager. In his words...

Ethiopians have a rich tradition going back ages.  Serious about their coffee, Ethiopians are very happy to serve you their favorite beverage in an elaborate coffee ceremony.  First, the coffee beans are roasted in front of you on a small coal stove, hand ground and boiled three times for proper consistency.  Served in little cups, the coffee is rich and strong and very hot.  Conversation is easy and always turns to God's faithfulness.  Proud of their heritage, many Ethiopians tell stories today of God's faithful work in their lives, even during the socialist oppression where many pastors were jailed and churches closed.  Today, unparalleled freedom exists to spread the Gospel and leadership training is needed more than ever!

Another old story they like to tell is of Kaldi and the Dancing Goats.  A young shepherd boy, Kaldi, is grazing his father's goats when the goats find coffee beans on a bush.  The goats eat the bright red beans.  Stimulated by the coffee beans, the excited goats begin to dance…

Dancing goats were nowhere to be found - the only ones that I saw had not enjoyed the coffee.  I did find people who love our Lord Jesus Christ and want to serve him with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength – the Ethiopian Christians were dancing inside.  Even their language dances with a lilt and when you look at the letters of their alphabet, they appear like playful figures.

Dr. Phil Walker and I went to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to teach at a school for missionaries, teachers, and evangelists.  We found students eager to learn, sensitive to God's Spirit, and an unusual willingness to make application of God's Word in their lives, families, and ministries.  The staff begged us to return and continue our teaching. Ethiopia needs trained servant leaders.  Why not come with us and join the dance?
God is using ICM to change the face of African leaders into the face of Jesus.  Why not get involved today?  Give, Go, Pray.  Make disciples!
Your servant,
Skip Taylor
